Yes, snow is the best! I only recently fully realised that some people truly do not like it - I always thought it was obvious that it makes everything so beautiful, peaceful and new. I like how the trails I often walk change into a completely new place.
Thanks for the book recommendations! Need to check out Call of the Wild. I love books about adventures in cold, rough places too - I have a Svalbard and a Siberia one on my TBR....
One of my favourite books is The Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen, about an expedition in the Himalayas. It has great nature & travel writing, a spiritual component and a moving personal story. And somehow it immediately transports me to a place that is wild and calm at the same time. Maybe I will write a review one day - I am re-reading it at the moment and remembering how much I like it.
Hi Hannah, thank you for the book recommendation, it sounds very interesting and promising! I'll definitely check it out, it seems to have all the ingredients I love!
I would also be interested in the Svalbard book ... Would you share that book's title with me as well? 😇
I'm so glad to meet someone who also loves these kinds of books!
And yes, that's a perfect description for what attracts me as well - "a place that is wild and calm at the same time". Thank you for that. 😊
I loved what you wrote about you always thougt it was obvious ... I couldn't agree more! Well, at least we will appreciate and enjoy every moment of it. 🥰
Thank you for sharing! I'll definitely give the first one a go, it sounds really interesting.
It's kind of funny about the second book, because although I've never heard of it, when you mentioned that you found the relationship story a bit uncomfortable, I was reminded of a book I read that made me feel exactly the same way. Turns out it was written by the German professor she went with! What a coincidence! https://www.lovelybooks.de/autor/Hauke-Trinks/Das-Spitzbergen-Experiment-144053320-w/
Thank you for those wonderful examples of wintertime words! With a friend of mine we developed the very gratifying habit of a „Adventskalender der Wörter“ - every year from 1 to 24 December, we daily gift each other a German word (or English, sometimes Italian) that sounds beautiful or ridiculous, is wonderfully old-fashioned or never-heard-of new, etc. So tomorrow thanks to your inspiration she is going to receive the word „gluggavedur”! :-) [Can‘t find the „thorn“ letter on my mobile phone, but have copied your explanation, so she‘ll get the correct version]
Thank you very much, Marianne, for taking the time to comment and share this wonderful habit! That's a very special "Adventskalender" indeed and a great idea! I love it! 😀
Oh, and I’m so pleased to meet another language lover. ☺️
I'm so glad that my post was useful (in a way I couldn't have imagined 😀) and you found a new word you can give to your friend. It’s really a fun and a good one! (I had to copy the word, too, I couldn't find the letter either. 😉)
Hi Claudia! Oh, I don't think there's anything better than snow and a clear blue sky. As you mentioned the days are getting shorter and darker. The snow makes the world more beautiful. I typically have had a lot of snow here in south Sweden by now, but this year the grey fog decided to stick around a little longer. I haven't heard those snow words before but I love the sound of them. The person who came up with them must have had a blast 😅 Thank you for sharing some book recommendations. I hope you're enjoying these winter days 💚✨
Hi Julia, thanks for taking the time to read and to comment! So good to meet another snow lover at heart! ❄️☃️ I'm glad you enjoyed those wonderful wintertime words as well! There were so many wild and funny expressions, they should definitely come back into fashion again. 😄
I'd be happy if you find the book recommendations useful or interesting. And I'm always curious about new books myself. Any winter or snow related suggestions? 😇
I wish you a proper snow and winter experience soon! 🌨️ Going into December now it just has to start, right?! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! 🎶
They definitely should! I had no idea there were so many of expressions related to snow. Oh unfortunately not, but I will keep you posted if I found any snowy suggestions. Thank you! Hopefully the snow will decide to show up before March 😅 Let it snow, let it snow..
Happy winter to you too, let's make this a cozy one 💚
Well, as long as there are soooo many wonderful books out there we won't be short on new discoveries, adventures and insights, it doesn't have to be the same book all over, does it? 😀

Still waiting for proper snow where I live, so I was happy to read your post to get at least some of it! ❄️
The Svalbard book on my list is "A Woman in the Polar Night", https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8266887-a-woman-in-the-polar-night. I just looked at the description again and immediately want to start reading it!
I also read "Champagne and Polar Bears: Romance in the Arctic" a while ago (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/954999.Champagne_and_Polar_Bears), which is on a similar theme. I found the relationship story a bit uncomfortable but it was well worth a read anyway.
Thank you for sharing! I'll definitely give the first one a go, it sounds really interesting.

Wow! If we both come to the same conclusion reading from two different perspectives, it must be *truly* uncomfortable!

Have a wonderful Adventszeit, both of you! 🎄

Thank you, Julia, yes, let's make this a cozy one, with or without snow! ☕ 📚 😊
Just added Two Old Women to my TBR list. It sounds great. The books where you discover something new each time are the best!
I'm so glad that book resonated with you! I'd love to hear what you think about it when you've had a chance to read it.
Is there a book for you in which you always discover something new? I'm always open to suggestions. 🤗
I’ve never thought about it before actually. I’ll have to think about it - maybe that means I haven’t 🤔
