Sooo relatable! I very recently bought a rain jacket too. I literally did not own one, like you. I still don't go for deliberate walks in the rain though, but at least now I have the option 😊

Thanks for sharing, Sophie. Yes, it's absolutely about creating the option. Who knows what may come of it once you make that first step. Maybe you'll like it? 😊 For me, it's hiking boots next year. Without them ready to go, I'd never decide to go on a hike, even though I would really love to. It's about lowering the threshold, I guess.

It really is, I've found that to be the case with any kind of exercise or new thing I want to try. The easier I make it, the more likely that it will actually happen.

Such a lovely post and I have to say lots of my clothes are windproof, waterproof and generally designed for the outdoors. Walking, reading and tea ... the perfect day ✨️

Thanks, Karen! It makes totally sense to me now too, it just took a little bit of time and coming back to what truly matters to me, dropping all the other personas. 😅 I hope your day included some of the walking, reading, tea ingredients too ... ✨️

It did! I went for a walk around the local country lanes this afternoon and really enjoyed it. Just thinking of another book recommendation....The Overstory by Richard Powers is amazing and definitely one for your wishlist 😀

Claudia Kollschen's avatar

Thanks for the recommendation, sounds like a great and very special book. I haven't read anything by Richard Powers yet, but this one might be the one to change that. 😀

It's the only book of his that I've read, but it's one of those books that absolutely blows your mind....very affecting!

I'm excited to find out. :)

I loved this Claudia, I too have hoods and they feel cosy. Thank you 💕🍃🍀

Thank you, Clare. 💗🍂😊

So brave of you to go outside in the rain, I've to work on that 😄 Because yes, it's beautiful outside even when it rains!

Claudia Kollschen's avatar

Well, it wasn’t torrential rain 😄, but it was a nice start to feeling comfortable being out and about in the rain. I loved it! 💙

I love how you captured the quiet magic of stepping into the rain... just noticing, just being 🌧️ Your hood as a shell idea really resonates! I’ve been eyeing a long raincoat with stiff toggles to keep the hood up... it feels like carrying my own little safe space. And your glasses dilemma made me smile because I’ve always thought we need winter windshield wipers for our specs! Beautiful photos 🪾

Thank you so much, Dana! 🩵 There is definitely room for creative inventions to improve conditions for spectacle wearers in rainy and winter weather, I agree! 😄🤓 Carrying your own little safe space is a beautiful feeling, I’ve just started to explore. Thanks for sharing your idea.

How lovely! I'm a weirdo who has always loved walking in the rain. Fortunately, my son enjoys rainy day walks too. It's one of our cherished traditions.

Sounds wonderful! (And not weird at all.) 😍 I've beginning to feel the appeal now too. It has a special atmosphere, I feel closer to nature and myself (if this makes sense) and it also can be amazingly fun. What do you love most about it? 🌧

This post reminded me of the saying that there is no bad weather, only bad clothing (although I am not sure I'd want to walk around in a downpour even if I was dressed for it!).

It is so interesting to reflect on what pieces of clothing and outerwear become practical or impractical when we move to a setting that is so different from where we lived before. I moved a few years ago from an upscale metropolitan area to a more casual, rural place. The rural place is not without its city-minded restaurants, though, which call for a certain sort of attire. I always feel like I'm stuck in a battle between wanting to dress like I live on the set of All Creatures Great & Small and Gossip Girl (the original version, of course). Maybe it's just fine to have a little of both. As long as you're comfortable, right? Anyway, lovely ode to hooded jackets and walks in the rain!

Thank you, Kate! So interesting what you described about moving to a very different setting and about feeling stuck in a battle between two very different styles. I can relate to this so much! I think it's very human to want to fit in (and sometimes, especially in rural places, the practical aspects just can't be denied), but on the other hand, I've often wondered what the "real me" is and what she would wear if she wouldn't care about what others might think. Feeling comfortable seems a good way to decide how to dress, a little bit of both certainly is too. Your set examples made me laugh, I know exactly what you mean. 😄 And for the downpour ... I'm not ready to give that a go either (yet). There's no need to make things difficult and uncomfortable for yourself, right? But sometimes what you thought is inconvenient might turn out as something you actually like. ☺️

Awww this make me happy to read Claudia 🥰 Welcome in the hoods and wellies club. No matter weather conditions I go out every day, dressed for the weather. For a Norwegian that make sense😀 And of course Viking spirit helps 💪🏽🔥

Claudia Kollschen's avatar

Thank you, Tony! 🥰 I didn’t know there was a club! 😄 Love that. I feel honoured to be considered a member now. 😁😎😅

No vikings among my ancestors that I know of, but many, many generations of small-scale farmers and farm labourers who could cope with any weather. I guess, so can I. 😌😊

Thank you, Claudia. This was an evocative piece. I love seasons but my husband‘s work brought us to a hot climate where there are only wet and dry seasons. I miss the grey, cool, wet and windy days. I agree that there is nothing to be afraid of by getting a little wet from the rain. I try to embrace the weather here, but it is easier to go for a walk in winter weather than when the sun is beating down heavily! Happy walking. I love your writing.

Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it and keep coming back to read my posts. ☺️

Phew, I would have difficulties with that too. I'm not good with heat at all, and the distinct seasons and different kinds of weather are something I really appreciate where I live. I hope my posts can give you a little taste of the seasons and weather you miss. 🙂
