My Mom and I have similar book interests, so when I buy a book she usually reads it, too, and when she buys a book I read it after her. Yesterday I bought a book titled Katabasis by R.F. Kuang, I'm only a few pages in but it seems interesting. It's about alchemical magic. Other than that it's kind of hard to buy books here, so I listen to a lot of audiobooks.
Right now I am really into the Hunger Games, first we watched the trilogy on Netflix and we're now listening to the books on YouTube, I adore the series and though it may be considered a teen book, it's really not for any age group in particular, it's just an overall very interesting and amazing story. Therefore I think you would enjoy the series, too, especially if you like series like me. Thanks for this wondrous reading list! Hope you have an amazing evening!
Thank you for sharing what books you are currently enjoying, Csermely! Sharing book recommendations is so great. ππ I read the Hunger Games trilogy some years ago and really enjoyed the series. I also watched the the movies which I thought were very good, although I still prefer the books. Like you said, very interesting and an amazing story. Very special. (I havenβt read the new books yet, the previews to the original trilogy. Have you listened to them as well?) Wish you a lovely weekend! β¨οΈ
My Mom and I are listening to the newest one, Sunrise on the Reaping now, and today I'll start with the original Hunger Games audiobook on my own. β¨οΈ I always listen to a book while she writes using headphones and I draw while I listen! π So I'll listen to the trilogy.
Haven't listened or read the older prequel about President Snow, but we might get to that one day, too. π π π We watched the movie of that though a few weeks ago. As you, I think the books are WAY better than the movies, they usually are, no matter the story! Like Harry Potter, which I also loved as a series, was way better in the book version. I read all seven books, the first one 3 times! So yes, I'm a huge fan of series. Glad you watched and read the Hunger Games, too! I like that it's a dystopian story (we can learn a lot from them) but also has a little romantic story line, too, which I find so heartfelt and pure. Overall it's a great story.
That sounds like a great way to do it. I'm pretty new to audiobooks, but beginning to enjoy them. With the right narrator it's pure bliss! Enjoy the next installments then, definitely something to look forward to. π
Harry Potter is THE series for me, I guess. ππ As a young bookseller working in an independent bookshop at the time (1998), the German publisher provided advanced reading copies and I immediately fell in love with that first book. I convinced my boss we just had to stock that one and recommended it to so many people at all ages - before it became a huge hit and a phenomenon. Fond memory. π
I've read the books in English and German several times, and although I don't keep many books any more, I still possess the Harry Potter series in both languages. π
I love the movies too and canβt recall how many times I've watched them, at the cinema on the day they were out and countless times on DVD. I got to know so many British adult actors through them which sparked quite a passion for British film. β€οΈβ¨οΈ
Ooh nices ones again! For sure a few that would like to read too! Looking forward to read about what you've read in December. I myself don't know yet.... I'm currently reading Iron Flame, a fantansy, but I'm only halfway (it's 600+ pages)... π€£
We have pretty different reading habits. But I do like reading to free my mind of our current political difficulties in the US. I am now reading 'The Light Eaters' by Zoe Schlanger. Nonfiction about how science is discovering that plants can communicate with each other. Easy enjoyable read, if eye opening. I have a few older fiction series that I re-read from time to time for their coziness factor. One favorite is the Jan Karon 'Welcome to Mitford' series. While this is sometimes sold as a Christian series, and there is something to that, IMHO It is much more than that! About an older minister who quite expectantly falls for a new neighbor. Charming settings in rural southern US in the mid 1900's with absolutely unforgettable characters. Highly recommend the audio version primarily narrated by John McDonough. He will take you there! :-)
Thank you so much for sharing your book recommendations, Sandy, very much appreciated! "The Light Eaters" was already on my reading list and now that you mentioned it, I took it as a reminder to finally order it at the library. π±π³π»π
I always enjoy seeing what you've been reading, and I keep adding them to my reading list but I'm not even making a dent. How do you read so much? (That could be a good post in itself π)
Currently I just finished The Forrests by Emily Perkins which was a surprisingly good read.
Haha, I donβt know, probably a mixture of being a very fast reader, training (as bookseller and as librarian I had to read so much and very diverse to stay up to date to new releases so I could recommend books for every occasion) and doing it in almost every free minute because it has been my favourite pastime since I taught myself to read as a child before I even started school. π
However, since nature has taken up a bigger role in my life again, together with slowing down, being in the present more, I find that I read less because I donβt fill each free moment with reading any more. (Yes, maybe I actually could write an entire post about it. Thanks for the inspiration! π )
Thanks for sharing your read, Sophie! I looked it up and it sounds interesting. It's been forever since I've read a family novel that spans decades or generations.
Thank you for sharing book tips Claudia, I like thatπ I love Krimiπ Germany have Good Krimi series on tv, I try to watch a bit when I am in Germany and Stralsund have itβs own Krimi which I like very much. I am reading a very good book called Natures Way , Native wisdom for living in balance with the earth. Author: Ed Mcgaa, Eagle Man. Itβs very good, and interesting I think.
Thank you, Tony, that book that you are currently reading sounds really interesting. I looked it up - and put in on my reading list. ππ Thanks for sharing, I'm sure it can teach us a thing or two about living in balance with nature instead of constantly exploiting it. A topic that is very close to my heart.
Yes, Krimi is huge on German tv. I only recently discovered that Stralsund has its own series. π

Wow, thatβs quite a tome. π But if it's good, pages fly and you donβt want it to end at the same time, right?
Yes, it is! And I absolutely like it! π

Thatβs so interesting to hear the different perspectives, I think youβre reading a lot and you feel youβre reading less than you used to!
Looking forward to reading your article π
