Great to hear how you feel your nervous system get better. Slowly, analog activity and the winterwalks is pure medicine. I feel and do quite simular things and also notice that I make me feel much better 💟🙏 A love to hear you read loud for your husband💟 Thank you for sharing Claudia ❣️

Thank you, Tony! 🩷 In the end, it all comes down to slow, analogue activities, being out in nature and movement, isn't it? Like humans had lived "forever" before we made everything so difficult for our brains and bodies. 😌

Oh, how wonderful, Claudia! Reading aloud, I love that too. I read all three parts of The Lord of the Rings to my (ex) husband. And I read to my children a lot. Very occasionally, I still read to my daughter (19), but she always falls asleep quickly 😄. I also watched That Christmas this week, together with my daughter, such a beautiful film. And then there's the snow, what a gift! What a shame I didn't think of standing in it with my bare feet! Unfortunately, I sit behind a computer all day for work, but outside of work, being more analogue would also be good for me. Although I'm getting better at it. 😊 Have a nice and analog weekend 🕯️📚🥰

Thank you, Hilda! 💗 I'm happy to hear that you also love to read aloud, and wow, The Lord of the Ring is quite a task. 📚 How lovely that you also watched That Christmas this week, it is really sweet and beautiful. 🥰 Wishing you a lovely , cosy weekend with lots of time for things that feel good! ☕

I loved this post, Claudia! 💕💕💕 I'm so happy for you that you are enjoying your analog January!!! I truly believe that it isn't all or nothing with technology - we must simply find the balance between screens and reality. I love audiobooks, too, but am trying to read more for myself (when we can get our hands on books, which is hard in Romania) and my Mom and I are reading The Secret of Secrets right now by Dan Brown. We are really enjoying the book.

We have Netflix too, (I also watched the Thursday Murder Club) I usually watch series, right now I'm watching a 9 season show called Suits. We also recently watched the Hunger Games & Twilight.

Wishing you a wondrous weekend!

Thank you, Csermely! 💗 You are absolutely right, it's all about balance. However, if you have spent too much time on one side (technology), I think it is necessary to spend more time on the other side (nature, analogue) for a while to feel what you have been missing and to create a balance with how you have lived for a long time, so that you can return to a healthy equilibrium later on. At least, that's how my nervous system feels after years of being out of balance.

We haven't read The Secret of Secrets yet, but set our hopes on the library here again. 📖

Have a wonderful weekend! Do you still have snow? ✨

We highly recommend The Secret of Secrets, it is really exciting!

We still have some snow, but it is like 5°C and warming up, plus the sky is blue and sunny, so it will likely melt in the next few days... But it will get cold again later in the week, so maybe we'll get some more snow before winter is over.

Wishing you ✨fantastic✨rest of your winter!!!

Same here, we even reached unusual 11°C here yesterday, so the last patches of snow are sadly gone now. I'm also setting my hopes on the next cold period later in the week for some more snow, it's only January after all. Have a wonderful rest of your winter! ✨️❄️🥰

It's about taking back control. Yay for you 🙌

I love that you don't necessarily have a grand plan of how you're going to become more analog but instead just choosing activities you enjoy and allow them to gently replace your screen time. I think that's the best way. Anything cold turkey is never a good idea, gentle approaches always work better.

So true, Sophie, and I think, it's also more fun this way. :)

You have had so much snow Claudia! How lovely and thank you for this reflective post ✨🙏

Thank you, Clare! Yes, we had, so exciting!! Finally a true winter again like I remember them from my childhood. ☃️

This is such an inspiring blog Claudia, thank you for sharing! I'm definitely trying to reduce screen time where I can too so this gave me lots of ideas. Love how you wrote about something so simple as looking out the window. It's the little things.

I also love the idea of reading aloud- I always think it's sad because it used to be such a popular way to spend time together but seems a lot less common these days. Perhaps I can find a willing audience in my partner, haha.

I'm so excited to watch the new Agatha Christie on Netflix too, so hopefully it's a good adaption! It's definitely all about balance with screens isn't it? Easy to say but difficult to actually stick with sometimes.

Hope 2026 is treating you well so far. <3

Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment, Gina! I'm so glad the recap of my January experiences and activities resonated with you and gave you some inspiration!

It's often the little, the simple things that are able to change so much, at least for me. It doesn't have to be so complicated or elaborate all the time.

I haven't read the book, so I don't know how faithful the adaptation is, but as movie/mini-series in its own right, my husband and I absolutely loved it! Hope you enjoy it, too!

You're right, reading aloud was so popular once, and it still is a great way to spend time together. About time we breathe new life into it, right? Good luck finding a willing audience. :)

Thank you for putting together such a generous overview of all the things you did, very practical! I got inspired by the idea of getting a notebook while eating breakfast. I've also stopped watching screens while eating last year, which was so calming, and breakfast is usually quiet, just me looking around the room, or reading a few pages halfway through. Having my journal or even a sketchbook there would be great. Just seeing what happens.

Love how you've been discovering new ways to approach the in-between moments. I also stretch in the kitchen sometimes! Great to know I am not alone in my weird movements haha.

Thank you for reading, Roos! I'm so glad my account of what I tried this month is useful to others and feels inspiring. ☺️ Good luck and have fun with trying it out!

Thanks for sharing, I love it that I'm not the only one doing weird kitchen stretchings. 😄

A lot of us {women} are coming to the same conclusion - that enough is enough! At least when it comes to screens and the growing time spent looking at them. It's wise to all trust our intuition in these moments and ask ourselves where/when/why the addiction sets in. From there, we have basis to change our behaviors as we reset our nervous systems, as you mentioned, and recalibrate our "need" of constantly being online. In the grand scheme of things, staring at screens all day is still fairly new to humanity. My motherly intuition tells me to slow down before we hurt ourselves.

Claudia Kollschen's avatar

Yes, yes, yes! I couldn't agree more. Thank you for your wise words, Cheryl! 🌿
